Spirit and I are frequently stopped because people have questions for the blind dog. And Spirit is here to answer them.
Is he blind?
There are times I even forget Spirit is blind because of how well he navigates around people and objects. In classes, Spirit makes a beeline for people walking in and most certainly finds any goodies left in the open. But, his other senses have overdeveloped to compensate for his lack of vision.
Why is he squinting?
I’m deep in concentration.
Spirit is not squinting. He has no eyes. His glaucoma was not responding to treatment and was in a great deal of pain. The only humane thing was to have his eyes removed.
How does he chase that ball?
Doo doo doo do doo. (Theme from the twilight zone)
Spirit can feel the vibrations in the ground as the ball moves, as well as hear the ball as it rolls past him.
One of our favorite questions for the blind dog comes from Beth Cristiano
Beth has known Spirit almost as long as he’s been with me and co-teaches pet first aid. Her question for the blind dog, asked at a trade show, is:
Should we leave a light on for Spirit while we go to dinner?
Spirit’s journey continues
